Housebuilder At Willingdon Confirmed

Catesby Estates plc are pleased to announce the legal challenge against the decision of Wealden District Council to grant outline planning consent for new homes on land north of Hazelwood Avenue, Willingdon has been blocked by the Supreme Court.

Wealden District Council granted consent for up to 390 dwellings on the 79 acre site in October 2016, after Planning Officers and Councillors concluded on balance the limited harm of the proposals were substantially outweighed by the benefits.

The claim had previously been refused twice in the High Court, and was dismissed in June 2018 following a hearing in the Court of Appeal.

David Morris, Planning Director at Catesby Estates said “It is clear this ongoing legal challenge had no merit, and denied local people looking for a new home in the area the chance to take their first steps on the housing ladder.”

“The site has been acquired by Barratt David Wilson Homes who will shortly be submitting a detailed application for the new homes along with areas of public open space, and children’s play areas.  The first residents are expected to take occupation early in 2020.”
