Catesby Estates have submitted outline plans for the construction of up to 80 new homes on 14 acres of land known as Weavers Green, off Sand Hill, Boxford, Suffolk.
The land lies within the administrative area of Babergh District Council, which is working on a new draft Local Plan which is due to be published later this year. The new Local Plan will replace the current Core Strategy, which identifies Boxford as a Core Village which is a suitable and sustainable location for development.
The outline planning application includes 35% affordable housing, public open space, highway improvements and footpath links to the wider area.
Ed Barrett, Senior Planning Manager for Catesby Estates said “We have worked closely with both Boxford Parish Council and Babergh District Council to bring forward this well located and sustainable housing site.”
“Boxford is a highly desirable, but expensive place to live, with the average house price being nearly double that of the UK average. Local residents highlighted a need for affordable housing and a range of smaller houses, and we have included this in our indicative housing mix, with 60% of the properties being either 2 or 3 bedroom homes including bungalows.”
The application will undergo a statutory consultation period, where anyone who wishes to make their views known on the development can submit their comments to Babergh District Council, before it goes before the planning committee later this year.
Should the application be approved, Catesby will then work with housebuilders to deliver a range of new homes, with first residents taking occupation early 2021.
