Planning refusal overturned in 2018
We are pleased to announce the refusal to grant planning permission for a detailed application for 96 new homes on land at Folly Hill in Farnham by Waverley Borough Council (WBC) has been overturned (December 2018).
The application for 96 homes, children’s play area and Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANGS) was registered in June 2016 and refused under delegated powers in September 2016 by WBC.
An appeal was submitted in March 2017 to The Planning Inspectorate, who delayed his ruling following the adoption of Waverley’s Local Plan and Farnham’s Neighbourhood Plan and a change in circumstances around the Councils 5 year supply of housing. The inquiry resumed in October 2018 and consent was granted in December 2018.
Inspector Philip J Asquith agreed with Catesby Estates’ evidence that there was a “significant shortfall” in Waverley’s delivery of housing against government targets, and that the scheme would not result in such a level of landscape harm to the character and appearance of the area that would outweigh the benefits of the proposal.

“We are now working in partnership with a well-known housebuilder who will be delivering the homes on this site, and we hope to announce further details in the coming weeks.”
