Site Update - February 2021

The planning appeal submitted jointly by Catesby Estates and Miller Homes at Whitford Road, Bromsgrove has been successful, along with a full award of costs against Bromsgrove District Council (BDC).

The virtual inquiry sat for four days in November 2020, with the decision issued this week.

In his judgement the Planning Inspector stated Not only does the appeal proposal comply with the Development Plan as a whole, it would bring forward one of the key town expansion sites allocated under Policy BDP5A."

"Site A has a crucial role in contributing to the supply of housing land, and its development would boost the provision of market and affordable housing in Bromsgrove. These are considerable benefits which clearly outweigh the limited harm which I have identified.”

Proposals included 505 new homes, 40% affordable housing and a significant package of infrastructure contributions and highway works.

We will be seeking development partners to deliver the site.

About the site

Whitford Green puts local people at the heart of its offering with over 40% of the homes being affordable.

This is an allocated site for housing in the adopted Bromsgrove District Plan 2017, and should be built on before consideration is given to proposals to build on unallocated green belt land surrounding Bromsgrove.

Our vision will deliver a viable and sustainable new residential development community in Bromsgrove that is sympathetic to its surroundings, sustainable and sets the benchmark standard for future development in the area.

The site is within walking distance of the town centre and Sanders Park, with new foot and cycle connections supporting and improving existing access.

New homes mean increased council tax receipts, new homes bonus payments and section 106 contributions that will provide the council with additional funding for education and transport infrastructure in Bromsgrove

More local residents means additional spend in Bromsgrove Town Centre, helping sustain existing local facilities, services and businesses.

In addition, the development will provide additional jobs and local supply chain opportunities.
